Vacuum Workholding Systems Using Chucks
In machining processes where mechanical clamping systems do not offer the best solution, vacuum workholding can provide secure part clamping. By suctioning the workpiece to the station, vacuum chucks keep it securely in place without the need for inefficient clamps. Using a slotted base and special adapter pads, small-part vacuum chucks are designed to hold smaller workpieces. They feature an aluminum plate with various slots milled into it connected to a vacuum pump system, and incorporate a custom-machined plastic pad for workholding solutions specialized to a specific part. Small-part vacuum chucks are ideal for light milling and drilling, as well as parts engraving applications.
Porous Vacuum Chucks
Microporous vacuum clamping tools are made from extremely flat, porous materials to hold thin or soft materials. These chucks feature an innovative design, allowing the workpiece to be fully supported without bending or deforming into a slot or hole that may be present in perforated vacuum workholding systems. Best suited for high-accuracy measuring requirements, porous vacuum chucks are excellent for cleanroom operations, wafer inspection, and optics.
Grid-Type Vacuum Chucks
Designed with a grid pattern, grid-type vacuum chucks feature incredible flatness for exceptional part accuracy. They come in rectangular styles for milling and grinding operations, circular designs for CNC lathes, fine grid patterns for smaller parts, tombstone fixtures for horizontal applications, and special sizes and configurations for custom solutions. Ice-Vise© Vacuum Chucks
Freeze-clamping vacuum chucks, like the Ice-Vise©, are ideal for clamping small and intricate workpieces. The clamping bond is created between the part material and chuck surface by freezing a thin film of water, allowing the chuck to hold 3 microns accurately without inducing stress. With a variety of options to meet application needs, freeze vacuum chucks are excellent for electronics, medical, optics, and R&D applications.
